hi chirag, its basically up to you. NEET is not mandatory, but if you wanna get MBBS in any college in india, except AIIMS and JIPMER(which conducts their own exams),you need to take NEET and you can choose to give NEET UG any time you want, not necessary that it should be done on 2018 itself, you can give whenever you are ready, but do bear in mind that, you can give a maximum of 3 attempts as of now. and it will be counted as an attempt only if you apply for neet, if you dont choose to, it would be zero, so up to u. good luck buddy
Clearly if you don't register or fill application form for NEET this year , it will not be considered as your 1st attempt.
Hope you got the answer but if you still have any queries about this topic please let me know in comments below.
Good luck
Thanks
as per NEET rules and regulations the first attempt is the one in which you register for NEET.
Hope it helps.

NEET attempt is counted only when you give the exam. If you didn't apply you won't be counted and your attempts will be nil.
The application will open in January 2018 and you can apply for the same.
If yes , then you fill the form and appear for neet and your attempt would be counted.
