Yes, you can appear for JEE Main 2018 even if your class XII result is awaited.
According to the eligibility criteria of JEE Main 2018 as prescribed by CBSE, the exam conducting body, candidates appearing in their class XII board exams in 2018 can also appear in JEE Main entrance exam.
Please make sure that your age must not be more than 25 years while appearing in the exam if you belong to general category and if you belong to reserved categories like SC/ ST/ PwD, then you have to not more than 30 years of age.

Below is the eligibility criteria you can check
1- Aspirants should have passed 12th class or qualifying exam in 2016 or 2017
2- Students, who are appearing in class 12th or qualifying exam in 2018 can also apply.
3- It is mandatory for aspiring candidates to have taken 5 subjects in 12thor qualifying exam-

The 5 subjects for B.Tech/B.E. are:
1-Language, 2-Physics, 3-Mathematics,
4-Any one of (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject), 5-Any other subject
4- For admissions to NITs/IIITs/GFTIs, candidates should have secured at least 75% marks in class 12th exam or be in the top 20 percentile in the class 12th exam conducted by the respective boards. For SC/ST candidates, the eligibility criteria is 65% marks in class 12th.
5- A JEE Main aspirant can avail 3 attempts for the national level undergraduate engineering entrance exam.
