If you wish to do make a career in it, you should start by preparing for the entrance examinations that are required to join the top Institutes in India that offer bachelor's, and subsequently a master's degree and a PhD education in astronomy such as
- IISc, Bangalore (JEE Main, GATE)
- TIFR, Mumbai (GATE/NET/JEST)
- IIST, Trivandrum (JEE Main, GATE)
- Indian center for space physics, Kolkata (WBJEE, RET, GATE)

These are some of the best Institutions that can help you make a career in astronomy. The entrance exams that you need to appear for in order to join these institutions, is given beside them.
It's nothing short of a Herculean task to get a master's and PhD in astronomy or astrophysics, but if you wish to join a reputed organization such as the ISRO, it's a basic minimum requirement for a research scientist.
Even though it's difficult, it's not impossible. You can definitely join ISRO if you're dedicated enough.

After 12th: You can get into IIST (Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology) for their Undergraduate programmes. The admission is based on JEE Advanced scores. Which means you need to have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2. You can pick any of their 4 year Bachelor programmes like B.Tech in Physical Sciences, B.Tech in Avionics and B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, etc. Or you can also pick up their 5 year Integrated courses in Master of Science in Astronomy and AstroPhysics, Master of Technology in Earth System Science, Master of Science in Solid State Physics and Master of Science in Optical Engineering, etc.
Opportunities are amazing for academically brilliant candidates. With a CGPA of 7.5 or higher, subject to the availability of vacancies, you get placed in ISRO. Aero and Avio graduates have better prospects even outside ISRO.
