Hello,

Candidates in the final year of graduation are eligible to apply, so if you can balance your studies with preparation, then you can commence your preparation, else do it after completion of graduation.

SSC CGL consists of four level, the first two are conducted in online mode with mcq format, third level is descriptive test, fourth level is skill test of data entry and computer proficiency test. Interview doesn't feature anymore in this exam.

A large portion of syllabus is attributed to Maths and English, the reason being it's not only in Tier I but in Tier II as well both consists of 200 marks.

First step towrds preparation of any exam is being acquainted with its syllabus, so you can download the syllabus from SSC website and take a print out, and keep in your study table. This will help you to understand what to read and what to skip.

Make a timetable, SSC happens over four tier level and with compeition increasing day by day, the level of question too have gone up in recent times.

SSC often repeats question, so going through previous year paper is must.

There are free mock papers available at various competitive exam sites, which you can use them to practice, it'll help you know your strength and the areas you require to improve.

Test series are highly important, as this exam is in online mode, unless an aspirant has good time management and has fair idea of what to attempt and what to skip, this will become a difficult task to handle.

You may refer the following books-

General Awareness, Lucent's GK is prefered by majority of aspirants for static portion and when it comes to dynamic part, it's best you read newspaper on a daily basis such as The Hindu or The Indian Express, going through this will help you acquaint with latest happening and you don't have to mug up everything at the last moment.
