there is scope for energy engineering in India and as long as there is demand for energy it will continue to be so. I am currently working in ALSTOM as a boiler performance engineer. There are different sectors in the energy industry that you can enter, ranging from Gas Turbines, Coal fired Boiler, HRSGs, Wind Energy, Solar Power, Hydro Energy, Nuclear etc. Many of these sectors offer you career opportunities in engineering,project management, manufacturing, sales, tendering etc. Although i must say, many companies do not develop many of these technologies in India and hence you may not be able to find a research oriented jobs.
