i am non cs student (civil) and i wish to do mtech in cs after gate . i will passout this year 2020 .pls suggest me way ahead.
Just go for Ravindra Babu Ravula's lectures.
Hello,
Yes it is possible to join M. Tech in cs with B Tech in civil through writing gate cs paper as you're passing this year.so,
Apply for Gate 2021 ,registration date is yet to be announced. So when registrations are open select gate in computer science.
So tentative exam month for Gate is February
You will be having 6 months starting your preparation from August.
There are totally 10 sections in cs paper
The gate syllabus for cs is :
1. Engineering Mathematics
If you have engineering maths in your 1st year or 2nd year then it will be easy for you to crack this section. And of course engineering mathematics is common to all branches with variation in syllabus contents. The contents of engineering mathematics for cs paper is :
Discrete Mathematics : Propositional and first order logic. Sets, relations, functions, partial orders and lattices. Groups. Graphs: connectivity, matching, coloring. Combinatorics: counting, recurrence relations, generating functions.
Linear Algebra: Matrices, determinants, system of linear equations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, LU decomposition.
Calculus: Limits, continuity and differentiability. Maxima and minima. Mean value theorem. Integration.
Probability: Random variables. Uniform, normal, exponential, poisson and binomial distributions. Mean, median, mode and standard deviation. Conditional probability and Bayes theorem.
Aptitude is common for all branches
*** computer subjects ***
Section 2: Digital Logic
Boolean algebra. Combinational and sequential circuits. Minimization. Number representations and computer arithmetic (fixed and floating point).
Section 3: Computer Organization and Architecture
Machine instructions and addressing modes. ALU, datapath and control unit. Instruction pipelining. Memory hierarchy: cache, main memory and secondary storage; I/O interface (interrupt and DMA mode).
Section 4: Programming and Data Structures
Programming in C. Recursion. Arrays, stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, binary searchtrees, binary heaps, graphs.
Section 5: Algorithms
Searching, sorting, hashing. Asymptotic worst case time and space complexity. Algorithm design techniques: greedy, dynamic programming and divideandconquer. Graph search, minimum spanning trees, shortest paths.
Section 6: Theory of Computation
Regular expressions and finite automata. Context-free grammars and push-down automata. Regular and contex-free languages, pumping lemma. Turing machines and undecidability.
Section 7: Compiler Design
Lexical analysis, parsing, syntax-directed translation. Runtime environments. Intermediate code generation.
Section 8: Operating System
Processes, threads, interprocess communication, concurrency and synchronization. Deadlock. CPU scheduling. Memory management and virtual memory. File systems.
Section 9: Databases
ERmodel. Relational model: relational algebra, tuple calculus, SQL. Integrity constraints, normal forms. File organization, indexing (e.g., B and B+ trees). Transactions and concurrency control.
Section 10: Computer Networks
Concept of layering. LAN technologies (Ethernet). Flow and error control techniques, switching. IPv4/IPv6, routers and routing algorithms (distance vector, link state). TCP/UDP and sockets, congestion control. Application layer protocols (DNS, SMTP, POP, FTP, HTTP).
Basics of Wi-Fi. Network security: authentication, basics of public key and private key cryptography, digital signatures and certificates, firewalls.
As you are unaware about the topics of cs, then I strongly recommend you to search each and every topic in internet and learn the concepts first either by reading textbook or watching tutorials on YouTube . After prepare Your Own short notes for every topic you prepared for. Next, solve as many previous paper as possible I recommend you solve last 10 years so that your concepts will be strong enough to crack gate in first attempt.
Hope you find this information helpful.
If you have doubts, feel free to ask here in comment section.
All the Best for Gate 2021
Thank you.
If I am not able to qualify of get good marks , then if I prepare again for 1 year will it affect my future placement/ admission as such .?
suppose i passout in 2020(this year sep is exam) and i will give gate in 2021 (feb ) --will this be a gap of 1 year or so?
or is it if i give gate 2022(feb) this will be my 1 year gap or 2years gap .Pls clarify.!
There are many people who give gate after couple of years as gap... So forget about your year gap and concentrate on gate. Your year gap may or may not be asked in interviews... You have to give a convincing answers to them. First leave out the fear of gap and keep full concentration in preparing gate. Already officials have released gate 2021 information. So focus on preparation.
Don't worry you need to appear in GATE examination in civil engineering or anyone branches. But you need to only one thing your rank is high then you are get admission in NITs IIITs and state government university . If you want to get admission in IITs then you revised the sallybus of cs because IITs are take admission on the besis of you GATE score and on the besis of interview. In interview IITs asking questions in interview from cs sallybus if you want to get admission in cs . NITs and other college not taking interview, only take admission on the besis of GATE score.
Thank you
