Let me clarify your doubt, Engineering stream like mechanical engineer and electrical Engineering are totally about Physics and mathematics.Engineering provides nice platform for further studies in premier Institution of India as well as for having jobs after Btech in public and private sector companies..You should go with engineering as it will keep you engaging in your interested fields and here you will get plenty of time to explore yourself towards various field of Physics..

There is numerous options for a person interest in physics.Ofciurse an easy and best way is to study B.Sc and rhen M.Sc in physics then you can either qualify CSIR-NET and become faculty at any collage or you can do research as Industrial physicists, Aerospace physicists, Geo physicist, bio physicist ,Astrophysicists, experimental physics etc.

If you want to enter research you have various options like
- You can do B.Sc and then M.Sc and finally Ph.D
- You can appear in NEST exam after 12th and can do do M.Sc 5 year Integrated degree form IITs.
- If you want to do a four yeat B. Tech. Engineering Physics undergraduate degree program then you will have to clear jee advance in order to do this course in IITs and some good colleges also give admission on JEE mains rank but the rank should be good.
