Hello
JEE Mains , your eligibility for OBC ( Other Backward Classes ) reservation depends on the specific criteria set by the government for that category .
Being a Shaik Muslim may fall under the OBC category in some states , but it is essential to verify whether your community is recognised as OBC by the central government .
For JEE Mains , you will need to provide a valid OBC-NCL ( Non-Creamy Layer ) certificate to avail of any OBC-specific benefits . Being a Shaik Muslim does not automatically qualify you as a minority under the Central OBC category . In the context of minorities , the government considers communities like Muslims , Christians , Sikhs , Buddhists and others as minorities , but specific benefits are usually separate from the OBC reservations .
Thank you
Hello,
As a Shaik Muslim, you are considered a minority community. However, to claim the benefits of the OBC (Other Backward Classes) category in JEE Mains, you need to possess a valid OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate.
If you have a BCE (Backward Classes 'E' category) certificate, it may not be directly equivalent to an OBC certificate, as the BCE category is specific to the state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
To clarify, you can contact the JEE Mains authorities or the National Testing Agency (NTA) to confirm whether your BCE certificate will be considered valid for OBC category benefits. Additionally, you may also want to explore the minority quota benefits, if available, by contacting the respective authorities or the institution you're applying to.
There is separate minority list of central government and state government. The central list of OBCs is available on the NCBC website. You can check from there.
Moreover If a candidate who doesn't fall under castes recognised as SC/ST/OBC by the Govt. of India & doesn't avail any form of reservations (except horizontal reservations like ExS, PwD, etc.) & his/her annual family income is above the prescribed limit of 8 lakhs by Government of India (or as prescribed by state govt in the respective states), then he/she will be recognised as a candidate from General category and not from EWS category.
