Get familiarise with syllabus: Getting aware to the syllabus is the first step to set about systematic preparation. Numerous questions are asked from subjects like current affairs, Indian history, Geography, Indian Polity, Ecology, Biodiversity and Environment, hence they should be prepared in detail.

Strategise :

General studies paper covers everything. It can be categorised as:

• Geography: Focus on physical geography and maps. Atlas is the best guide to help you with these topics

• General awareness: This embraces government schemes etc. Reading newspapers and guidebooks will help you about.

• History: Emphasise on Modern history, Freedom movement, Ancient India etc. A standard history guide covers all these topics

• Current Affairs: Going through at least two standard newspapers (one English and the other, a vernacular) will keep you updated of the current events

• CSAT: It covers a vast portion. Comprehension, logical reasoning, basic numeracy are to be prepared from standard book.

Prepare your Own notes : Making notes help you remember things in a better way. so, it is advisable to prepare notes especially on topics which are tough for you.

You can start preparing for the civil entrance from now on. This is the right time as this exam needs enough time which you have to work on the syllabus intensively.



Make a routine. Know all about UPSC exam syllabus, the changes and recent trends and the pattern. Start with newspaper reading as this is the base and will take months to analyse. Specially focus on editorial section and other important sections in the newspaper.



You can join a coaching academy soon after you form a base says after the end of first year.

Keep yourself updates with sports, literature, culture, geography, history, politics, national/international affairs.

Giving IAS exam being an English (H) student is a good option. Also, I am assuming you are not taking any coaching so you can follow the below provided preparation tips -

Manage your time effectively and be disciplined.Develop a routine. Do selective reading but be thorough in those protions. Remember to have a good mix of books and self made notes. Take mock tests at regular intervals. Start preprations early, its a vast syllabus. Make short notes and mindmaps on a regular basis as they help your memory. Reach out to fellow aspirants. Discuss topics as most importantly believe that you can do it without coaching.

Note : It is not an exaggerated fact that IAS is the nation's toughest competitive exam and calls for intensive practice and preparation. So it is advisable to clear all your concepta and do not cram.
