Leather in terms of technology still uses archaic methods of tanning and polishing. It's really important to understand what you want to do. There are plenty of jobs in leather industry and I am sure with the growing export you will bag one. Yet it's important to understand that manufacturing leather has not gone a lot of technological development. There is nothing much inventive you could do with your engineering. But there is one area you could work and that is working on the environmental compliance in these setup which needs to be addressed urgently. Kanpur has a huge amount of pollution due to leather; Chennai is moving towards becoming zero liquid emission zone. There are lot of international customers who will respect this. And I believe in terms of manufacturing this will be a break through. Besides that the industry is growing, and it's not difficult to bag jobs in circuits like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kanpur. Besides the above, I don't know much on govt. job side.
