Hello Piya,

Having sociology as a subject in class 12th is not necessary to take admission in Delhi University’s Sociology Honours. A candidate from any stream is eligible to apply for this course. In fact, you are from humanities stream so that will help you more in understanding the concepts more than the science and commerce students who change their stream and opt for this course.

Currently, these colleges Delhi University provide B.A. Sociology (Honours) as a course:-

1. Bharati College

2. Hindu College

3. Indraprastha College for Women

4. Janaki Devi Memorial College

5. Jesus and Mary College

6. Kamala Nehru College

7. Lady Shri Ram College

8. Maitreyi College

9. Miranda House

10. Sri Venkateswara College

The cutoffs range is high to average depending on the college’s popularity.

For 2018, the First cut-off for General category was-

Bharati College- 89%

Hindu College- 96%

Indraprastha College for Women-95%

Janki Devi Memorial College- 90%

Jesus and Mary College-95%

Kamala Nehru College- 93%

Lady Shri Ram College for Women- 96.25%

Maitreyi College- 94%

Miranda House- 96.25%

Sri Venkateswara College-96%

Hence, you can infer from the data given above what kind of marks you need to score to get admission. In some colleges, if a student has not studied sociology as a subject, one to two percent cutoff is raised. For example, Jesus and Mary College offers B.A Sociology at 95% to those who have not studied sociology and for those who had it as a subject, the cutoff was 93%.

A bachelor of arts in sociology deals with the scientific study of social behavior, human society, and its various aspects. It is a 3-year undergraduate degree divided into 6 semesters. Average fees in Delhi University is around Rs.18,000/-

If you are interested in learning the various aspects of society, societal norms and the different factors which contribute to the development of modern society, then this course is for you.

I hope your query is answered. If you have any other doubt, feel free to comment or ask.

All the best!
