Yes you can join indian railway after 12 science but you have to opt PCM or Group 1..

A scheme naming Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA), was firstly introduced in 1927 during British reign for betterment of Railways .
SCRA Scheme
After selection candidate will be trained for 4 years under Railways at BITS, Mesra or Ranchi (One of the TOP and Reputed Engineering Deemed to be University). After successful completion of training candidate will be warded a B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) degree from same BITS. After that candidate will be absorbed as Indian Railway Services of Mechanical Engineers as an Officer. One more thing during 4 years long training and study student will also be paid stipend of about 7000 - 74000 + Medical benefits etc.
Eligibility:
Candidate must be 12th passed with 1st class or 2nd class and must have studied Mathematics as one of the main subjects and either Chemistry or Physics also.
Limit:
Candidate must be minimum 17 years old and maximum 21 years old before 1st august.
Selection:
Have to appear for SCRA examination. Regetration begins in october.

Earlier there was a exam happening named SCRA which is for apperentice in railway. But railway closed the SCRA Exam now. But as you are studying in class 12 and if you are pursuing the engineering than you have golden opportunity to get the job of officer grade by selection in IES, you can also become S.E, J.E etc.

In Commercial Apprentice 25% of seats in commercial inspector, claims inspector, rates inspector, chief booking clerk in GP4200, 10% will be through the traffic apprentice selected through LDCE (Limited Direct Competitive Examination) from amongst staff who are graduate in Commercial department upto 40 year of age. Rest 15% seats are through the direct recruitment by RRB (Railway recruitment Board). Qualification : Degree from any recognised university or diploma in rail transport & management from institute of rail transport will be an additional desired qualification.

There are so many posts in railway you can go for direct after 10th or 12th like Group D, after Diploma in Engineering you can go for Loco pilot and junior Engineer in railway or you can choose 2 year ITI to get apprentice and technicians posts in railways. If you are from Science stream you have a lot of chances in railways after Engineering. So railways is the best option for government jobs.
