While medical microbiology focuses more on disease prevention and treatment, general microbiology places a greater emphasis on the study of microorganisms.

Microbiology has a wider range of view or research than medical microbiology, which has a more constrained scope. With the latter, you will have more opportunities. Yes, continuing your education in medical microbiology still makes sense.
