First of all.. Congratulations.. You are on the correct path and near your goal i.e. a job in PSU or M.Tech/M.S. from I.I.S.C. To get a rank of 10000 is not a small job. Your rank tells that you did a great job in so. In Gate 2017 Mechanical I know one of my friends got 49 marks out of 100 and his rank was in 11000. So to get a rank in 10000 out of about 1.75 lakh aspirants writing this exam is a great thing.
Same time I would also say that this rank can’t get into any PSUs or premier IIT. But as I said earlier you are near your goal.
Suppose you are a B.E. recent graduate i.e. you wrote Gate in your final year of engineering I would recommend these two paths.
Your rank shows that you are well versed with the syllabus of your stream, the equation , formulae mostly asked in exam, its pattern etc. So you don’t have to start from the scratch. Join any institution like Made Easy or Ace in rank improvement batch. The focus should be on making your skills sharper. They would focus on solving more numerical questions.
As GATE gives more weight-age to numerical than other competitive exams you should solve more and more previous year questions, after that switch to previous IES, ISRO numerical questions.
2. Join any M.Tech programme in regional engineering college or NIT
This one path is followed by many government job aspirants. Join any good college in M.Tech programme and study, practice for the Gate along with it.
I know that there would be additional burden such as home assignments, projects etc. But if you are focused then this is also a good path. You would be able to get stipent of about 13ooo per month.
DON'T JOIN ANY PRIVATE ENGINEERING COLLEGE OF M.TECH.
Go for NIT s or reputed autonomous university where placements are almost assured as the back up plan. Ex:VJTI, Mumbai
