GATE 2025: Syllabus | Sample Papers
Hello Uma,
Gate stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is a national level examination which is a gateway to lucrative Public sector organisations of India or in the field of research at reputed institutions. It is conducted for almost 24 subjects related to engineering and a student may apply for any one paper . This choice may be his graduation subject or a subject of his interest depending upon the eligibility of different institutions.
Now coming to your question, Cutoff for GATE examination varies year to year depending upon the number of seats in offer and the number of students contesting for it. For example , if number of students willing to take admission in ,say NIT Warangal ,is very high, then obviously the cutoff will go high.
Taking the general trend of marks Vs rank for CSE branch in 2018 , for OBC category the cutoff was 22.5. This number has remained pretty much the same over last few years. So you can be sure of finishing well above the cutoff.
Gong into specifics for NIT Puducherry,
Last year NIT Puducherry granted admission to its M Tech programmes on a gate score of 433 for OBC category.
If I estimate your rank according to previous year marks and score analysis by various experts, then you could get a rank of about 10-15k.
At this rank, it will not be possible for you to obtain admission in any of the NITs .
For your information I am providing a list of top NITs and their respective cutoffs for GATE 2018.
