It totally depends on the number of factors. It generally depends on the number of Candidates are appearing in exams and also depends on the number of candidates originally attended the exam and it also depends on the marks they got on that exam. Previous years cut off and how many students have got marks more than your marks generally called percentile. And with these values, they have a proper formula to calculate the rank of the candidates.
