Hello Sridhar,

NITs and IITs are among the top elite institutes of the country for pursuing B.E./B.Tech. Therefore the admission procedure to these colleges is quite challenging. You are required to qualify an exam, based on which, your rank is generated and depending on the number of seats, you are allocated a seat at respective college for the respective branch. For NITs, you are required to qualify and get a good rank for securing a seat. Whereas in the case of IITs, you are required to qualify and secure a good rank in JEE Advance. As mentioned, around the top 2.25 lakh students are eligible to write JEE Advance, irrespective of their ranks.

Now, as mentioned, you got 47000 rank in JEE main, so according to me, you will not get a good branch at any of the NITs. For IITs you will have to clear JEE Advance and be among the top rank holders to be eligible to get a branch of your respective choice at IIT.

The procedure for calculating that you will get a seat at any IIT or NIT is simple. Just find the opening cut-off and closing cut-off of the college and see whether your rank lies within that range or not. If yes, Congratulations, you are eligible to get admission, else, you are not.

You may get the branch wise cut-off of each of the NIT from below link:

For IITs cut-off visit the below link:

https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/jee-advanced-cutoff

The above-mentioned links will give you an approximate idea, as to what branch you may get. Although they are based on previous year records, the cut-off remains very near. But may vary, as this time the JEE was conducted by NTA, so there are several variations, such as that of a jump in the cut-off. Therefore, wait for JOSAA, and prepare for IIT, because branch allocation in IITs is competely based on your score in JEE Advance.

In case you don't get a seat in IIT/NIT, below are some of the colleges, that you may consider:

  • Thapar
  • Jaypee
  • LPU
  • Tezpur Unversity

and several more colleges you may find in the NCR region.

Hope this Helps

Regards.

Hii Sridhar.Your rank is bit high.

You need to get good marks in JEE Advanced to get IIT.

As per the previous year cutoffs you have good chance of getting lower ranked NITs such as NIT Patna, NIT Raipur, NIT Surat, NIT Uttarakhand, NITs from North-east,etc .You might get some medium ranked NITs such as NIT Bhopal, NIT Rourkela, NIT Nagpur, in later rounds so be patient.

Hello Sridhar,

With a rank of 47000 in JEE Mains you can get into NIT college through home quota. It would be difficult to get into NIT colleges through other state quota.

To get into IIT you should write JEE Advanced and based on its marks you can get into IIT colleges.
