I got 62 marks in jee mains and 87%in cbse 12 boards. Being a general candidate , I should take a drop or go for private college ??

Since you belong to the General category, you should have a minimum of 74marks to qualify and you have scored 62 marks which means you have not qualified. But, you are having a good percentage in your board exams. So, I feel you should not drop out, instead you should apply for private colleges or universities. If you are still interested in joining in NITs, I suggest you join B-tech for now and simultaneously prepare for mains and write thee exam next year.

If you believe that next time you'd be able to score good and crack jee then only take a drop otherwise join a private college..
