Yes, you can appear for JEE Main after a drop year. NTA is going to conduct the exam twice a year and that is very relieving for the students as they can check their progress. You are allowed to take exams both the times in a year and that is counted as an attempt of that year. You can write exams for three times (one in 12th and two in subsequent years).

you can definetly take a drop and appear for JEE mains in its next session which will probabally be in month of january and in year 2020. you can prepare will during this span for JEE main and appear for it in its next session.
