I got 85% in CBSE and scored 98 in economics. I want to know if BA in economics is a good option for future. Also which subjects are inclu
Answer (1)
Economics
the pros:
-enhances analysis, logical thought and problem solving skills
-ability to communicate quantitative data as well as qualitative research findings
-ability to examine and predict future economically-oriented events,
- will make you a marketable, employable asset that differentiates you from other graduates
Career wise:You can get prestigious jobs in the government sectors like Indian Economic Services, Indian Civil Services, Reserve Bank of India, National Sample Survey, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Planning Board, Planning Commission, National Council for Applied Economic Research and National Institute of Public Finance and Policy. You can be an economist, economic advisor, executive, analyst, consultant, researcher, financial analyst, business analyst, economic research analyst and stock market analyst. Or, go for further studies!
the cons:
- you won't feel marketable enough on a graduate degree alone and hence, would need to combine it with other master degrees.
-you may not find it interesting if you don't find doing Maths interesting
-it may get boring doing so many calculations, assumptions, theoretical data etc after some time
Regarding Economics, I'd suggest you better go for Accounting (CA or CS) if you want a job right after graduation as a mere BA in Economics will hardly mean anything if you don't do PhD in it later on.
if you are asking about papers offered in Unversity of Delhi,
then the list is as follows
You have papers like
Microeconomics,
Macroeconomics,
Mathematical Methods in Economics,
Statistical Methods in Economics,
Econometrics
Indian Economy (since Independence)
Development Theory and Experience
Internaional Economics
Public Economics and host of Optional Papers to choose from across 6 semesters along with interdisciplinary papers offered by other departments in a particular college under CBCS
In general
means core subjects is Economics where you will be learning two core subject of economics, two subsidiary subjects that can be political science, history (two paper), statistics, environmental studies and English (written and spoken communication or language through literature). The above combination is for first year of the course.
In second year, statistics will be replaced to Population studies and instead of two papers in core sector will become three papers. Same in subsidiary subject.
Coming in third year, subsidiary subjects will be eliminated. You need to undergo only core subjects.
Hope that helps.
