With  86 percentile in JEE Main, your rank would depend on various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of candidates, and the previous year cutoffs. You can possibly get some gfti at this rank and some low level courses in nit and iiit. You can check the previous year trends by visiting the official website of the NTA.

You can take help of  our college predictor which is best suited for predicting the colleges according to your rank. The link of the predictor is given below:

Hello,

With an 87 percentile in JEE Main, you have several options for pursuing a B.Tech degree. While getting into the top-tier NITs or IIITs might be challenging, you still have good opportunities at other reputable institutions.

Here are some potential options :

1. National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and IIITs
Newer NITs: You might have a chance at newer or less competitive NITs. The specific branch and home state quota can also play a role in your chances.

IIITs: Some of the newer IIITs might be within reach, especially for branches that are less competitive.

2. State Government Colleges
State Engineering Colleges: Many states have their own well-regarded government engineering colleges that accept JEE Main scores. For example:Uttar Pradesh: Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU), Kanpur ,Maharashtra: College of Engineering, Pune (COEP), Madhya Pradesh: Jabalpur Engineering College, Jabalpur.

Home State Quota: If you are applying to colleges in your home state, the quota can significantly improve your chances of getting a good branch.

Hope it helps you!
