It is hardly possible to get NITs if you belong to general category but there is a chance as you belong to OBC category for 98.7 percentile in JEE MAINS yes, but you need to do better and score more as possible to get good rank which results you in getting into NITs. With 98.7 percentile score in JEE Mains, your rank would be around 12000 to 18000 I. The common rank list. Also as you are from OBC category, you are eligible for seats on top NITs and IIITs. You can get non core branches easily in the old NITs. You can also get core branches in the old NITs in the subsequent rounds of JOSAA counseling and CSAB spot round. In the newer NITs,IIITs and GFTIs you can get core branches.
