I got a low % in class 12...can i get into some college for a bsc in food technology or nutrition and food technology?

B.Sc Food Technology is a 3-year undergraduate course involving an advanced study of the techniques and activities involved in preserving, processing, and manufacturing of food.

As a discipline, Food Technology is a combination of engineering, food science, hotel management, and home science. B.Sc. Food Technology course is an advanced study of the technology and processing methods used to develop, research, manufacture, produce, preserve, process food and related substances.

B.Sc. Food Technology: Who Should opt?

  • Ideal candidates of the course would ideally possess:
  • Passion for science and Math.
  • Interest in food production and preparation.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with strict hygiene rules.
  • Excellent communication skills, for communicating with different types of people.
  • Confidence and enforcing food-related rules and regulations.

Eligibility for B.Sc. Food Technology

Candidates aspiring for admission to the course are required to fulfill the following minimum eligibility criteria.

  • 10+2 education completed in the Science stream, from a recognized educational board.
  • Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology/Home Science as the main subjects at the 10+2 level.
  • A minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the 10+2 level.

B.Sc Food  Technology: Admission Process

Most institutes and colleges offering B.Sc. Food Technology course admits students based on their accomplishment in a relevant entrance examination, conducted mostly at the institutional level, followed by a round of personal interview.

In the personal interview round, candidate's general aptitude for the course is examined and a merit list is then issued by each institute, declaring the names of all the selected students. Admission procedure generally varies across institutes.

A few institutes also provide direct admission to candidates on the basis of their score at the 10+2 level and some other criteria as well.
