A candidate is alloted a seat considering his/her rank, category, gender, vacancies, region.Suppose that you have secured a general rank which is lower than the mentioned cut off in general category and if there are vacancies then you will be alloted a seat in open category even though you are reserved candidate.And another candidate from your category will be a alloted a seat considering reservation.Even SC/ST/OBC falls under general category which is open to everyone including general category candidate.

So it is the same even if you get a seat through open category or through reservation.It is just that another candidate is given a chance to get a seat through reservation.
