Congratulations for your results. With category rank of 7146 you have chances to get in any of the NITs. In NITs you can apply via Home State (HS) quota for which you have priority. You have to register for JoSAA for considering you for counselling. JoSAA prepares a rank list and release opning and closing rank. So your counselling is based on JoSAA rank list.

As per the previous year trends, for TOP NITs the OBC rank fro CSE or Mechanical Engineering lie somewhat in the range of 2000-16000. So as your rank is within this range you have good chances of getting into top NITs. For more visibility refer to this following link:-
