Hey ,
Firstly, Glad to know that someone is interested in taking up engineering because of their own personal interest. Its not everytime that a person chooses engineering with self interest other than job necessity and peer pressure. Since youve already mentioned about liking automobile engineering, go ahead with it because It is always said that one who puts his heart in his work will always be the successful person. Automobile engg is not a low paid job or a field with less scope. Just because you have 90% in computer science doesnt mean you should take up IT or BCA. Getting marks in any field just requires a little of sleepless nights and a little work to memory. And anyone of your grade can get. Even a person with highest marks in physics sometimes fail to excel in JEE, just because marks isnt everything, But interest is everything. You do a work with utmost interest, job and high designaton follows you. Choosing college also play a major role.
So before choosing , make sure you are really into it . You may already know about automobile engineering. It is a field which includes automotive engg, aerospace engg, marine engg along with mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, safety as well as design , manufacture, operation of automobiles etc. In the present day scenario, Automobile has its utmost importance. In this study, you will also learn about safety engg, quality control, assembling and disassembling of various automobiles. Salary : Starting salary ranges from 3 L to 7L per annum. Eligility : Minimum qualifying marks from PCM which is 35%. Even though you have 65 - 70% in Physics and chemistry, if you qualify in JEE exam, you would end up in a good College Like NITs which is a one of the Top colleges for Engineering courses.
Scope : automobile engineers , after their BE degree take up exams like Gate and do M.Tech. As designers, they design the details like hydraulic, mechanics etc . They also are involved in development , maintainence, operating etc. If you take up jobs at automobile industry, they land up as an automobile engineer, Quality specialist , safety testing specialist , research and development engineer etc.
If you are interested in UPSC , you can do after your B.tech as to take up any UPSC exams, having a graduation degree is a must. SO just because you need to Become an IAS officer, why waste it by doing any degree which isnt of your interest?. SO by doing the degree of your interest, youll even pursue your interested field and after completion or during your final year, you can take up IAS exam and If you qualify youll have both your interest with you to choose where you want to work.
As far as the suggestion goes, its better to take up the field of your interest and pursue it . after your degree you can take up UPSC exam and clear it and become and IAS, but if you are really intereted in computers than automobile than choose CS : B.E in computer science. But either for that make sure to join a Good college with better placement and then choose the field that gives you motivation to work with your interest. IF that is in computers then choose CSE , if its in automobiles , then choose Automobile engineering. For either, work hard as none of them are easy, and marks isnt everything.
Hope this piece of information was helpful to you in makin gyour decission.
Good Luck and all the best.
