Hello,
You can get admission into ME petroleum engineering through GATE exam. The GATE exam paper for petroleum engineering PE consists of total 65 questions. 55 questions would come from the core subjects taught in the bachelor of Petroleum engineering and 10 questions would be from Aptitude.
As you are from Instrumentation engineering background, so your subjects in BE were totally different from petroleum engineering course. So you need to prepare a lot for petroleum engineering right from the basics.
Also as you have no or less experience in petroleum engineering, you would find it hard to do your Masters coursework even if you get admitted to masters in petroleum engineering.
So it would be better for you to go for masters in your own domain that is instrumentation engineering. You can also go for ME in EEE or ECE or even in CSE which will have quite some similar subjects.
