I have 95 in 10 and 95.4 in 12th but a low graduation score of 51% and gave my cs final hoping to pass, what shld be my cat score for iimabc
IIM-A,B are very difficult considering the graduation score. But IIM-C is possible with a 99+ percentile. Having Extra curriculars helps too. Every qualification matters. Try some other courses or case studies or some on going research or internships generate some certificafes more. Be part of teams that organise events or do something that has some relevance to society or your college or anything else that can generate some valuable experience or certificates to count on.
Focus and work hard for Cat.
All the best.

Even for FABM course graduation marks are being considered?
The general rule of thumb is that every certificate earned from the time you join your bachelor degree has the maximum value. But while you are in the selection process every certificate matters. Like from your schooling time too, it shows you are a consistent performer. The only thing is they shouldn't be just participation certificates, otherwise things get difficult.
Although if the participation certificates are from IIMs or IITs or NITs or any nationally recognised institutions then you can capitalize on them by saying what you learned from the experience and so on.
Any national/state/district type of recognition/participation is also appreciated. Like if you cleared chess upto state level and went for national competition but failed, it counts too.
Take part in student competitions in India it can be as simple as photography ones or as complex as solving a case study. Try publishing some research paper. Its not that hard. One of them in my bachelors college published a paper about How to make the stationaries in colleges more efficient?? Or do a course like Google adwords if it suits you. There are online forums where you can do some proffesional courses too like Coursera. Try some basic ones like for Excel and Powerpoint and get a certificate. One of my peers here with 2years workex is an instructor at Coursera.
Linkedin is a powerful tool search for any live internships, they won't pay you or pay you very less but it adds value. You can just simply work for a superstore and improve customer experience.
There are questions like tell me about a conflict you solved and what did you learn from it??
At Tapmi interviews.
If you have family contacts in the industry that can work to get some internships too.
In my IIM-V interview I was asked as a fresher what internships did you do?? And what did you learn from them?? I did one from Alstom for only 20 days but described it really well, one of the Interviewer was the dean of the college and he was impressed by that.
So keep such things in mind keep working and build up your profile. If you need more help ping me here.
All the best for your future.

Hi Mayank
For IIM A & B, the graduation score should be around 99+ but there are other factors also that matters. Now every IIM also focus on diversity apart from just academics. Since you have won some inter university debate competition, this can give you some edge over others. Apart from that being a CS qualified would be an added advantage
For IIM C, they do not consider
graduation score. So here is the good opportunity for you since your scores in
Xth and Xth are very good. My sugestion is to focus on CAT and not to worry about other factors as you have already cleared minimum criteria for geeting the claas from IIM A,B,C
Good luck and give your best
Hello Mayank,
As per CAT eligibility criteria, one must have at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons With Disability (PwD) categories) in
Bachelor’s Degree.
You are very much on the boundary of the above mentioned criteria. Nevertheless, you
have an excellent score in Class X & Class XII which I feel will compensate for your graduation score. Being a B.Com graduate will fetch you extra points for acdemic diversity. Moreover, qualifying CS examination and being a CA Finalist will be a value addition to your profile.
In order to get calls from IIM A, B & C, it safer to score 99+ percentile in CAT. My personal suggestion to you will be to focus on CAT examination and score in it. Give your best and do not think of the other parameters like past academic score at this point (when effectively only 2 months are left) as they cannot be changed.
Good Luck.
Hi Mayank,
With 51% in graduation, you are just eligible to apply for CAT exam. However, to get into IIM A B or C, you need to score really well in the CAT exam. If you meet the cutoff criterion of these three topmost B-schools, you would be shortlisted for the selection process which includes a writing test (WAT), Group Discussion or Exercise (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). Apart from performing well in all of these rounds, your scores in 10, 12 and graduation will also be considered for the final selection process. Good luck.
Hoping to pass really makes your chances bleak. Class 10th and 12th percentage is amazing, as it should be the case, but the graduation percentage may cause a trouble. Specially when you are engineering you need atleast 99 percentile to get a good shortlist. In addition to that if you have extra curricular activites that would be an amazing positive point for your CV then you'll have talking points when it will come to interviews.
For now concentrate on getting a 99 percentile for getting decent calls.
All the Best
Hey Mayank!
You have really good marks in 10th grade as well as 12th grade. But, 51% is really low through the engineering perspective. Therefore, your chances of getting into old IIMs are very low, but if you can make in top 50 in CAT. You definitely have a chance to appear in the PI and GD, where you can show your talent and justify the past academic shortcomings. Secondly, you should appear for exams like IIFT and TISSNET, where they don’t consider your past academic record. So, just prepare well and ace it. Don’t thing about your past score as nothing can be done about that.
