The percentile represents a normalization. It alone cannot be used to know the marks that you get. If suppose you get 250 on 300 and that 250 is the top score, then normalization occurs with regard to 250. So candidates who have scored 250 marks will have 100 percentile irrespective of total marks. Cut-offs decided by the authorities also depend on this top score. You can calculate percentile by using the formula:
(You marks/Top marks)*100
