To become genetic counselor, you must complete an accredited master’s program in genetic counseling. This program is typically two years and includes courses such as molecular genetics, counseling ethics, and research methods; as well as clinical training experience and a research project. After completing the program, students must take and pass a certification exam in order to become a certified genetic counselor.
