I have been doing my family business for last few 4 years. Now thinking to do MBA.
As long as the company is a registered entity and you can produce a valid appointment letter / proof of employment letter or salary credit proof, it will be counted as valid work experience. Although, do note that work experience accounts for a very small % in calculating the total score of a candidate in IIM's.
Now coming to CAT this year or next year. You have 2 months left. In both the cases I suggest you to give the exam this year and next if not cleared this one.
Even if you are not prepared and in the remaining time you will have to dedicate yourself into the studies for 5-8 hours in a day to get prepared for most of the CAT syllabus. Because you are in your family business assuming that it shall be difficult for you then you can go through the important topics of CAT.
Find the list here and give sectional and full length mocks timely.
Analyse them and understand which sections you need to work upon.
Rest incase you are unable to get the exam cracked this year you can start aiming at next year.
But exam can be given both the years, you will get the exam experience.
You have a good amount of experience and if you are financially stable then you can prefer ex-mba courses and give GMAT exam.
Ex MBA courses will not only add on to your experience but will help you to continue with your profession smartly.
Hope this helps.
