Dear Aishwarya
Let's start with Gujarat first. However the eligibility rules for academic year 2018-2019 haven't yet released, we can get an idea of the same from previous year. Given that we go by previous year rules, you are not eligible for admission on MBBS/BDS seats (other than 15% AIQ seats) in Gujarat. It is so because, as per Gujarat MBBS eligibility criteria, a candidate is required to have passed both Class 10 and Class 12 from Gujarat Board or a school located in the state of Gujarat. And as stated by you that you have done your Class 12 from AP, you are not eligible for Gujarat. It should be noted that this eligibility condition is same across all type of MBBS/BDS seats in Gujarat (except seats falling under 15% AIQ), may it be Management Quota or NRI or Government seats.
Talking about Andhra Pradesh (AP) now, you might know that AP from this year on has joined 15% AIQ scheme, so some changes might be in store which will become more clear with the release of AP MBBS admission prospectus for this year. However, Dr. NTR University, AP, has released a document clearing AP domicile rules applicable for academic year 2018-19.
If we go by the rules mentioned in the document, then you are eligible for 15% non-reserved seats in 85% state quota. Let me explain that further.
Andhra Pradesh MBBS State counselling will be conducted for:
The domicile criteria for admission in private colleges isn't as strict. On some seats, private colleges offer admission to candidates' on the basis of their merit irrespective of the domicile and it is expected to continue in the same manenr this year.
The domicile rules in AP are crucial for claiming admission on 85% state quota seats in government medical/dental colleges.
Talking about government medical/dental colleges in AP, the 85% state quota seats are divided amongst 15% non-local area candidates and 85% local area candidates. Now, who is a local area and non local area candidate?
A local area candidte is the one who has completed at least Class 9 to Class 12 study period in a particular local area. Areas are divided amongst three universities namely, Andhra University (AU), Osmania University (OU) and Sri Venkateswara University (SVU). For instance, if a student would have completed his/her Class 9 to Class 12 from a school situated in the local area of AU, then that candidate would be termed as a local AU candidate and would have been eligible for 85% seats reserved for local area candidates from total 85% state quota seats. Since you haven't done Class 10 from AP, it shows that you can't be termed as a local area candidate.
However, you can still claim 15% of 85% state quota seats reserved for non-local area candidates. How? It will happen by the virtue of your parents living in AP (I am assuming they have since they are the natives). You will be eligibel to claim these 15% non local area candidate seats, if your parents have lived for at least 10 years (not necessarily for a continuous period of time) in AP. To claim these 15% of 85% state quota seats, you will be required to produce 10 years residence proof at the time of counselling.
I hope it clears the picture for you.
All the best!
