I have completed a B.L.S.LL.B and I want to become a journalist so can you please guide me? 1) How to start journalism? 2) Is any additional degree required? 3) How much will be the salary?
Hello,
You can start with doing interships, it'll make your foundation stronger, you'll also get an idea about how to write catering to different audiences, you can start your own blog and pen down whatever interests you, law can be your option as you're a graduate in the same field, there are many onlines sites as well where you can contribute, this in a way will build your body of work. When it comes to the pay package it varies depending on experience and expertise. Companies often look for people who have published body of work, with experience and enough expertise people do well in this industry, but then one needs to work hard for that, it's not all of a sudden a person starts making lots of money, it's a continous process.
Coming to whether a course in journalism is required or not, many people have entered into this field without any degree in the relevant field, with experience and opportunity they've learnt the craft, a course definitely helps you learn the finer intricacies, you can choose to do Master's Degree or Post Graduate Diploma, some of the best colleges are IIMC(Delhi), Jadavpur University, IPU, Amity University, St Xavier's College,Asian College of Journalism etc.
