Yes, diploma is equivalent to 12th and a bit more than that. So there are no drawbacks. just that you spend a year more completing the diploma (10+3)

For getting an admission in IIT -

The candidate should satisfy at least one of the following two criteria for admission to IITs: Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in class 12 (or equivalent) Board examination. Must be within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective class 12 (or equivalent) board examination.

Yes, you can get admission through Jee main and jee advanced in IITs. But you will not getting direct admission in second year. Because according to IITs rules if you're completing 12 th or diploma you will be both treated as aame and have to start a degree from first year only .So if you have done jee main then it is good because admission will be depends on only jee mains this year because of COVID-19 pandemic.
