You can apply for the CSIR NET Exam. Let me clear the difference between the CSIR NET and the UGC NET exams.
The CSIR NET Exam is conducted for the five subjects that are physical science, life science, mathematical science, life science and chemical science. Only candidates who have completed the post-graduation in science stream can apply for the CSIR NET exam.
On the other hand, other stream candidates can apply for the UGC NET Exam which is conducted for more than 84 subjects.
As you have completed the MSc in Zoology, you can apply for the CSIR NET Life science or Earth science subjects.

Hello Avni, Yes, you can appear for CSIR NET but you are not eligible for UGC NET. CSIR and UGC are two different governmental departments and both conduct their respective NET entrance exam. Although the purpose of conducting both these exams is the same, there is a difference in the subjects involved. Both are really good option... All the best

Yes, you can appear for CSIR NET but you are not eligible for UGC NET. CSIR UGC NET is conducted in five subjects - Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences. As per the eligibility criteria, candidates must have M.Sc or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/BS-4 years/BE/BTech/BPharma/MBBS with at least 55% marks for General and OBC candidates while it is 50% for SC/ST, Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates.

As you have done your Masters' in Zoology, I suggest you that apply for CSIR NET is the better choice than the UGC NET. CSIR NET Exam is conducted for Science stream students by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. It is organized bi-yearly basis for those who want to make their career in Research and Lectureship field.
You should have minimum 55% aggregate marks in Masters’ if you are from General/ OBC Category or if you belong to SC/ST/PwD categories you should have scored minimum 50% aggregate.
To apply for the CSIR NET JRF exam candidate’s maximum age should be 28 years. SC/ST/OBC/PWD/female applicants have up to 5 years relaxation in age criteria.
For the assistant professor, there is no upper age limit.
