UPSC exams are one of the most competitive and prestigious exam.
Firstly , you need to make your mind and start from basic things first. Start from reading newspapers( the Hindu) and cut out important clippings or note down important headlines. Start reading your NCERT books from 6th - 12th, revise and practice everything from your NCERT books.
So newspapers and NCERT books is going to be your first step.
Secondly, make a proper timetable and set your short/ long term goals. Start reading books related to economy, politics, current affairs. Make notes and make sure that you are not just reading, understand the topics you need clear all the concepts in your mind.
Participate in debates, improve your speaking as well as writing skills. Make a habit of reading and writing your answers . Clear your doubts immediately.
Give equal time to each subject, do not study all the subjects in one day , make a timetable and study 2 or 3 subjects per day.
There are 3 stages in 1 year long examI.e, prelims, Mains and interview. Understand exam syllabus properly, you can download your syllabus from UPSC website
Go through the syllabus and exam pattern .
you can take help from following books:
- if your basics are weak then read your NCERT books and take help from online videos.
- Geography: refer 6th To 10th class books , and some selective chapters from 11th and 12th Books , follow Mrunal books.
- medieval and Ancient history- old NCERT books of class 11
- Environment and Economics- class 12 NCERT books, Sriram printed notes for Economic and Shankar IAS for environment.
- geography: class 11 and 12 NCERT book. Watch Mrunal videos.
- current affairs (hindu, insightonindia, monthly magazine)
- attend test series and apply for mock tests from insightonindia
- economy and infrastructure: prelims studied sources+ Sanjeev Verma , Economic survey, budget, current affairs
Go through your UPSC syllabus and then start preparing accordingly.
Current affairs related to polity, IR, Public Admin related topics, political science, economy and infrastructure, agriculture and related topics Disaster management etc.
Current affairs are very important, you can take help from important topics like a current Daily, monthly Magazine, insightonindia.
Focus on your essay preparation. Writing skills, communication skills.
You can also refer some general good books like:
1. Economic survey and Budget
2. Imagining India: well india issues and solutions to them
3. India after Gandhi: understand India's transformation
For now, start reading newspaper and your NCERT books .
And after that practice previous year question papers and apply for mock tests regularly.
Make proper schedule , go through important details and syllabus from UPSC website .
And lastly, UPSC is a time taking process, you'll face problems but learn to cope up with them and keep yourself motivated and work hard .
