Hi there.
For becoming an IAS officer one needs to write the UPSC examinations which require all-around knowledge of all subjects. Hence, there are various interesting subjects to choose from.
You should choose a field of graduation that you are passionate about, in which your interest lies, and something that helps you in your preparation of UPSC exams as well, you can opt for a BA in History, Geography or Political Science. Even a BSc/BA in economics would be great too.
Start your preparation from the very 1st year of graduation. Start with NCERT books of Class VI-XII of History, Geography, Economics, and Science.
Develop a habit of reading The Hindu daily and be updated with current affairs. Read the Yojana Magazine regularly.
For a proper book list and study schedule head to Unacademy's website (Roman Saini's lessons) and Mrunal's blog.
Hope this helps.

Hi Abul,
There are two insights here: If you are really focused in clearing IAS exam, then you can go ahead with doing courses like B.Sc. (Bachelor of science) in any courses of your choice. By that, you would be qualifying basic educational qualification needed for this most reputed exam of country. During your graduation period you may find some free time which can be used to devote in preparing yourself for IAS or you can join some coaching institutes after 1st year as well.
On other hand, if you feel your mathematics is strong, then you can go ahead with graduation engineering courses like: civil engineering, mechanical engineering and not (electrical, CSE) etc. Engineering if done from some good reputed colleges (states colleges, NIT, IIT’S) etc. requires lot of blood and sweat from student end. Often, semester breaks also goes in doing trainings etc. Thus, time available to prepare for IAS exam during engineering could be minimal. But for engineering branches, a separate exam is conducted called as IES (Indian engineering service) conducted by UPSC only. By doing engineering you will be qualified to appear in that exam as well.
If we see financially, then doing B.Sc. would be an economical option to choose.
Thus, keeping in mind above things said, I conclude that you should choose a subject which can be taken as your optional subject for IAS exam in future.
All the best!!
If you have already decided to go For UPSC then why you want to do Engineering and waste four years in it, Instead of it you can go for something like BA and focus on your studies, Because if you choose to engineer then it will create a burden and it does not benefit you in any way. Although you can choose Engineering subjects such as Mechanical in the Main exam there are better choices if you do graduation in arts like History and all. In my opinion, you should start to focus on UPSC instead of opting for Engineering unnecessary.
Hello Abdul Hussain, thanks for asking question on this platform.now as you completed your twelveth in pcm and you want to be an IAS officer.so actually when you do engineering you have a backup plan which is too much necessary when we are preparing for UPSC .and secondly as you see many of UPSC topper belong from engineering background so I will suggest you .but if you don't care about the backup plan then BA will be better option. thanks
