GATE 2025: Sample Papers | Syllabus
Hi Durga Srisai,
We cannot say whether you'll get into NIT or not with the marks. The reason behind the point is GATE cutoffs are based on the normalization system.GATE Scores are normalized to take into consideration various variations in the multiple papers as conducted. These variations could be related to various factors and especially the difficulty level of the examination.
GATE Score Normalization is based on the assumption that in a multi-session exam, the abilities of the candidates are equally distributed across all the sessions.
The exam authority makes sure that the number of candidates in each session is of the same order of magnitude.
The formula generated to calculate the normalized mark of the jth candidate in the ith session is;
GATE RESULT
: Actual marks obtained by the jth candidate in ith session
: Average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates considering all sessions
: Sum of mean and standard deviation marks of the candidates in the paper considering all sessions
: Average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates in the ith session
: Sum of the mean marks and standard deviation of the ith session
The score of the candidate is calculated using a certain formula which is defined below;
GATE SCORE = GATE RESULT
Where,
M: marks obtained by the candidate (actual marks for single session papers and normalized marks for multi-session papers)
: qualifying marks for general category candidate in the paper
: mean of marks of top 0.1% or top 10 (whichever is larger) of the candidates who appeared in the paper (in case of multi-session papers including all sessions)
: 350, is the score assigned to
: 900, is the score assigned to
In score formula, Mq is usually 25 marks (out of 100) or +σ, depending on whichever is larger. Here μ is the mean and σ is the standard deviation of marks of all the candidates who appeared in the examination.
According to 2018's GATE exam, the cutoffs for EE are 29.1(general category), 26.1(OBC), 19.4(SC/ST/PH). So, you may definitely get a chance to get into any of the NITs and do apply for all them.
