Hello,

Here is an overview on you problem :-

  • Yes, you can apply for BA in Political Science at Delhi University with a PCB background.
  • Delhi University does not restrict admissions solely to students with an Arts background; it considers overall eligibility criteria.
  • The subject background is not compulsory, but certain colleges may have specific requirements related to the subjects studied in 12th grade.
  • Admission is primarily based on the cutoff percentage and eligibility, which may vary by college.
  • While Arts students might have a slight advantage, the DU system is inclusive of students from various streams.

Hope it helps !

Hi Sara,

Yes , you can pursue a BA in Political Science at Delhi University (DU) even if you have taken PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) in Class 12. DU allows students from any stream to apply for courses in arts and humanities, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility for BA in Political Science at DU:

  1. Minimum Academic Qualification:

    • You need to have passed your Class 12 from a recognized board.
    • The minimum percentage required varies depending on the DU college, but it typically ranges from 45% to 55% in your best of four (BO4) subjects.
  2. Best of Four (BO4):

    • The BO4 includes:
      • One language (English or Hindi).
      • Three other subjects from the list of DU-approved subjects.
    • If Political Science is not one of your Class 12 subjects, there might be a 2.5% deduction in your aggregate BO4 score, depending on the college.
  3. CUET (Common University Entrance Test):

    • Admission to DU is now based on the CUET . You’ll need to appear for the test and include Political Science or related subjects in your domain papers.

Do Students from Arts Background Have an Advantage?

  • No Specific Preference: DU does not give extra preference to Arts students over Science students for admission into BA Political Science. Admission is based purely on:
    • CUET scores.
    • BO4 percentage for tie-breaking or additional criteria (if applicable).
  • Adjustment Factor: If you haven’t studied Political Science in Class 12, some colleges may apply a minor deduction to your CUET score or BO4 percentage, but it won’t disqualify you.

Can You Choose Subjects Outside Your 12th Curriculum?

  • Yes, you can pursue Political Science even if it wasn’t a subject in your Class 12. DU allows flexibility in selecting courses, and many students switch streams after 12th.

Hope this helps.
