assuming that you are from CBSE, you can definitely give improvement exam for improving your marks in maths as well as for all other subjects. Prepare yourself for your exam.

for Improving marks , you have to appear Improvement exam if your board has the provision. CBSE has it. State board only have supplementary exam for back paper students.  UP board has the provision so You can appear for improvement exam next year.

You can give exam as per the syllabus you have and the subject you have in compulsory part and electives you have choose. That is final. You can't change your subject in improvement exam.

if Maths was not there is subject list then you can't appear.
