International organisation for standardization is a group which has defined codes for the names of the the union territories and states of India. There are 28 states and 8 union territories codes as defined by international organisation for standardization. Each state and union territory code consists of two parts which is separated by a hyphen. The first part is IN and second is the short form of the state. For example Andhra Pradesh code is IN AP, the state code of Arunachal Pradesh is IN AR.
