Hello Shreyansh,

Mathematics is the qualifying paper in the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy(NDA and NA) written examination conducted by the UPSC. the first paper that is checked during the written evaluation is Mathematics and if you score marks greater than its sectional cut off then only your General Ability Test (GAT) score is taken into consideration i.e if you clear the sectional cut off for maths, then only your Gat is evaluated.

Once the score for both the papers is evaluated, the total score should again surpass the cut off score so as to clear the written part of the NDA and NA examination.

The cut offs for previous examinations are as follows:

NDA and NA (I) 2016 : Maths- 75/300

GAT-150/600

Overall-288/900

NDA and NA (II) 2016 : Maths- 60/300

GAT-120/600

Overall-229/900

NDA and NA (I) 2017 : Maths- 75/300

GAT-150/600

Overall-342/900

However, as you might have observed, the individual as well as sectional cut offs are variable dependent on the level of toughness of the question papers in the respective attempts.

I hope this information finds you well.

Thank you!
