I m in 12th giving competitive exams. I got 93 percentile in jee mains january and expecting 96-97 percentile . What could i get? Or drop

As per your percentile, and considering you belong to general category, your rank is approximatly around 62385 - 69885. This rank is just an estimation which does not consider your 12th marks, your shift of examination etc. So this rank might vary. As per your present rank, you will get into NITs. But you still have very low chances of getting into a Government college but in that case your choice of branch is not guaranteed. But you can definitely get into good private colleges.

Now, when you talk of dropping a year, it comes with its own pros and cons. The only pros that I can find is you might work hard, because you get lot of time just to prepare for JEE Mains and then get a good score.

But, sometimes studying the same thing makes you bore and it might happen that you start losing interest. Moreover, the feeling of casualness might set in you making you think you have lot of time to prepare but that time never comes.

My point is, Only if you are consistent with your hard work during the period of drop then onli it is useful.

According to my suggestions, you should not drop a year to prepare for Engineering. And nowhere it is written that engineers from IIT are the best engineers in the world, You can become a successfull engineer after studying from a good private college as well. The thing that matters is your knowledge, intelligence and passion towards whatever you are studying.

So thing accordingly and decide with a calm brain after taking into consideration all the pros and cons of dropping a year.

It would be better if you first try your chances in counseling and see what's the best place you can get. This is good enough percentile to get a preferred branch of your choice. If things do not go as per you have planned then only think of dropping a year. If you are confident enough that you can give one more year to the preparation and get through to some bright future then only opt for dropping. Drop one year only when you are sure and persistent enough.
