JEE Main Examination is conducted by NTA (from 2019) for Admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and Institutions funded by participating State Governments.
JEE Main have two papers. Candidates seeking for admission to BE/BTech course have to appear for Paper-1. While candidates seeking for admission to BArch/BPlanning course have to appear for Paper-2.
JEE Main is also a qualifying exam for the JEE Advanced, which a candidate has to clear if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.
JEE Advanced Examination is conducted for admission into various undergraduate programmes across 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Some other Institutes like Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) also consider JEE Advanced Ranks for admission.
JEE Advanced consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, each of 3 hour duration. [Both the papers are compulsory].
To get admission into an IIT, you need to clear both JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

Jee Mains and Jee Advanced are two different engineering entrance exams.
Jee Mains is conducted just after 12th Boards in the month of April. Clearing Mains, you can get a rank and admission into the NITs(National Institute of Technology),IIITs, and various other colleges like Amity. Many private colleges admit students through the Mains score too.
Jee Mains paper 1 has 90 MCQ Single Correct Option questions. 30 each from Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Marking Scheme is +4,-1. And full marks in 360.
Jee Mains paper 2 is only for those interested in Architecture and is not for B.Tech admission, but B.Arch admissions.

Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main is the national level undergraduate engineering entrance exam. The entrance exam is the gateway for the admission to various B.Tech/B.E. programmes offered by 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 CFTIs. From 2019, JEE Main will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), twice a year in computer-based mode only. Also, JEE Main is the qualifying test for JEE Advanced through which candidates can get admission to 23 IITs. JEE Main 2019 will be held for 2 papers where Paper-I is for B.Tech admissions and Paper-II for B.Arch admissions. States like Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Nagaland & some other institutions use JEE Main ranks for admissions; however, admission criteria for the mentioned states will be notified by the concerned state authorities only.
The new changes in JEE Main 2019 allow for candidates to appear twice for the entrance exam in a given year. The better of the two scores will be used for the purpose of ranking as per the regulations laid by the authorities.

JEE Advanced is conducted by the seven Zonal Coordinating IITs under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The seven IITs are IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee. Admissions to the Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s and Dual Degree programs (entry at the 10+2 level) in all the 23 IITs is on the basis of JEE Advanced 2019 ranks. JEE Advanced 2019 will be conducted by IIT Roorkee aided by the remaining six IITs mentioned above.
The application forms of JEE Advanced 2019 will be available tentatively in the first week of May. The entrance exam, JEE Advanced 2019 will be held on May 19 in two shits (9 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm). The application process is online while the entrance test is computer based. The exam has two parts which are mandatory and come from the predefined syllabus released by the authorities. Candidates are required to download their admit cards a few days prior to the exam and the result of JEE Advanced 2019 will be announced tentatively in June. Admissions will be through counselling conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority also known as JoSAA.
