Hello,

Given below are the criteria for candidates having Tatto on their body-

• Candidates must ensure that any permanent body tattoos are only visible on the inner side of their forearm.

• Tattoos on the inside of the elbow to the wrist, as well as the reverse side of the palm/back (dorsal) side of the hand, are not permitted by UPSC.

• Tattoos on any other part of the body that are permanent are also not permitted.

• If an applicant comes from a tribe where tattoos are common, approval will be given based on the customs involved.


Also There are certain eligibility criteria that one has to fulfil to be able to write the National defence academy/Naval Academy or NDA/NA examination.


Academic wise eligibility criteria is-


Candidates must be 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.


Most of the time age is the deciding factor for eligibility. Now the age wise eligibility criteria is that the candidate must be between 16.5 to 19.5 years of age.


Also for the NDA 2022 examination the DOB of the candidates for the two attempts is as following-


• NDA -1, 2022

DOB Between - 2nd July 2003 to 1st July , 2006


• NDA - 2, 2022

DOB Between- 2nd January , 2004, to 1st January , 2007

Hope you are clear now.

No, you are not eligible to apply NDA 2022. Any candidate with a permanent body tattoo(s) on any part of the body other than that specified in Paragraphs 2 and 4 above (permissible category), or is of an objectionable nature (non permissible category), as brought out in Paragraph 6 above, are not eligible for enrolment into the Armed Forces.

Hi reader ,

the rules laid down NDA authorities regarding the tattoo is as follows:

  • Permanent body tattoos are accepted only on the inner face of a forearm. Tattoos on the inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand/Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable.
  • Tribes with tattoo marks on the face or body as per their existing custom and traditions will be permitted on a case by case basis.
