Forestry is the science of planting and caring of forests. Forestry also deals with the management of growing timber. The main function of foresters is to manage forest resources effectively by the use of efficient and new techniques. The mapping of forest areas is also performed by foresters. Some of the other functions of foresters include preparation of forest documents, protection of forest from campers and poachers and maintenance of technical data related to forests.
Eligibility:
The student must be a pass in the higher secondary school certificate exam (10+2). The candidate must have physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics in their higher secondary schooling. The eligibility percentage for getting admitted to this course depends on the institute applying to. In general, the admission is based on the score of the higher secondary school certificate exam. But some colleges take admission on the basis of an entrance test.
Course Outlook:
B.Sc in Forestry is a four year full time course. The whole course is divided into 8 semester of six month duration each. The course covers topics on the techniques of forestry, the various laws that have been passed by the government to protect forest and techniques of ecology and wildlife.
Job Prospects:
The job prospects are available both in public as well as private sectors. One may go to the Indian forest services by giving the UPSC.
