Hello Aspirant,

The B.Tech. course in any engineering discipline is a 4-year course, and its offers only the degree of the Bachelor of Technology. For further professional growth, a b.tech holder may require to pursue the M. Tech. in any specialization area of the same discipline. The m.tech course takes two years. On the other hand, the integrated (B. Tech.+ M. Tech.) course is a 5-year engineering course which offers two degrees in the selected engineering discipline, both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The following are some significant differentiating factors between the two courses, which also answer to the question “ why is integrated b.tech m.tech course better than only b.tech course ?”, which will help the students in their respective course selection ---

  • The b.tech course is highly suitable to those students who quickly want a job in the concerned industry just after completion of this course. However, only this b.tech degree is not much appreciated by the employers. Only entry to assistance level jobs will be available to them at low-to-average salaries. This also happens due to the burgeoning number of b.tech holders every year in the country.
  • The integrated b.tech-m.tech course is highly suitable to those students who seeks to gain specialization in any specific segment of the selected engineering discipline, and have interest in teaching or research. Normally, the holders of integrated courses find much better job opportunities and preference in the concerned industry, as compared to those only with b.tech degrees. The doctoral research is accessible only after the m.tech in the relevant discipline. Again, quicker jobs or/and higher posts are achievable easily by the integrated or dual degree holders.
  • The B.Tech. course takes 4 years, while the integrated or dual degree course takes only 5 years. The b.tech holders will require to spend 2 more years to achieve the m.tech degree, at the same or different institute or university. In the case of the integrated course, there is saving of one precious year, and there is no need to take admission to a different institute. Hence, the overall time and cost are quite lesser for the integrated or dual-degree course.
