Hello Manu,

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), formerly the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) is an entrance examination in India for students who wish to study graduate and postgraduate medical courses (MBBS, MD, MS) and dental courses (BDS, MDS) in government or private medical colleges and dental colleges in India. The undergraduate NEET (UG), for MBBS and BDS courses, is currently conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which provides the results to the Directorate General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

If you are interested in going into medical field then you should start preparing for NEET exam. As you are in Class 11th, start reading your NCERT books thoroughly. It is always better to start preparing from class 11th only. Clear your concepts and keep practicing what you study. If you are comfortable with self study then you can also subscribe to e-learning. And if you feel, it is difficult to prepare on your own then you can also join a coaching institute like Aakash, allen, etc. But most importantly try to stay focused and devote at least 4-5 hours to study.

Dear Manu, NEET is the entrance examination for admission to Medical, Dental and Ayush colleges across India. Now NEET scores are also considered for Veterinary Sciences. So in other words, if you want to study MBBS, DS, BHMS, B.V.Sc you have to appear and qualify in NEET. NEET is conducted for admission to around 460 Medical colleges. Not just that but qualifying in NEET is also mandatory to study Medicine abroad. Having said enough about NEET, lets have a look at how you can qualify for NEET. There are mainly two eligible criteria that need to be fulfilled to appear for NEET. First off, you need to be 17 years atleast by December 31st of the year of admission. Second, you need to have completed your 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology with a minimum aggregate of 50%. It is 50% for General Category, 45% for PWD, 40% for SC,ST,OBC. This aggregate is to allow you to appear in NEET. Even studenys who are appearing for their 10+2 exams are also eligible for appearing in NEET. Every year more than 10 lakh students appear for NEET. So how does one qualify in NEET? A General Category student should score 50% and a candidate from SC,ST,OBC cayegory should score 40% to qualify in NEET. This aggregate is 50% and 40% of the Top marks scored in NEET. For example, if the Top ranker has scored 600 in NEET, if you are from General Category, you should score 300 to be qualified in NEET. Now, not every qualified student can get a seat. A merit list is prepared based on cut offs, category, reservation etc snd eligible candidates are called in for counselling.
