Now to answer your question, Yes you are eligible for b.tech in thermal engineering after your diploma in mechanical engineering. You are eligible for lateral entry in second year of B.E/Tech. Diploma holders can acquire degrees on clearing the exams of the thermal Society of India.

Yes you can take , after completion of your 3 year diploma course you can take whatever branch you want to but most of the college's prefer same kind of branch because to make them teach you easy . Well we don't yawn negetive words , probably yes you can do it if you're passionated ,teach yourself some basics and gain some knowledge about thermal engineering subjects so it would be easy for you.
