Please elaborate your question, for which exam you are asking your question?

If I talk about University Semester examinations then if you want to Improve your Marks of any Subject then you can register for improvement exam and you don't need to appear in Practical examinations again, you have to give the exam of only Theory.

Different Universities follows different Curriculum but Most of the Universities conducts improvement examination only for Theory paper.

In CBSE Board exams too, you need to appear only in Theory Paper.

Improvement exams are for students who have passed but are not satisfied with their marks and are willing to take the exams again.

CBSE Improvement Exam can be taken in one or more subjects in the succeeding year only after passing the subject in Class 12th.
